TYPES OF CULTURE BASED ON LEWIS MODEL

Hi everybody, well as you know every week I try to post some things about the Philippines culture, and today is not the exception. So let's get started.

According to the Lewis model, we can classify the different cultures around the world in three big groups that are: Linear-active model, multi-active and reactive culture. This is very important to know because with this knowlegde we can understand better the culture of other countries, and in our case the Philippines´s culture.

When I started learning about this country and his culture I classified them in the reactive culture because, they are very quite, they are very polite because they follow a lot of traditions like the man must court the woman, or in a business they want to follow a protocol. Then I looked up what is the classification of this country and they are catalogued like that.

Then I started to think what would happen if a student from Philippines come to Barranquilla as an exchange student? Well it would be difficult at the beginnig because they are introvert people that don't talk to much, they prefer to listen and here in Colombia the culture is multi-active so we like to talk a lot, do a lot of things without a schedule, and this could be a challenge at first for this student to adapt here. But hey! he would love our culture after a while.
